Ridge to Reefs (RTR) was formed to protect and restore ecosystems and achieve tangible outcomes working together with local communities. We work to create permanent sustainability for people and the planet. Our Mission: We catalyze local capacity & develop nature-based solutions to create communities where connected human and natural systems thrive. Ridge to Reefs works with communities to achieve tangible outcomes creating permanent sustainability for people and the planet. First, communities identify local social and ecological challenges. With our local partners, we design, plan, and implement nature-based solutions. Ultimately, community members sustain and take full ownership of every project. Together, we build sustainable resilience everywhere we work. This process creates fully sustainable social, agricultural, and ecological systems. We envision a world where: Everyone has access to locally-sourced, healthy food. Clean water supports communities and healthy oceans. Energy is derived from renewable sources. People support sustainable entrepreneurship and circular economies. We envision a world where connected human and natural systems thrive. We manage pollution through local direct interventions (on-site restoration practices) and through green infrastructure ecosystem restoration practices including restoring historic wetlands, mangroves and creating new treatment wetlands and biofilters to treat specific pollution sources. We recognize and work to support local sustainable businesses as protection of natural resources goes hand-in-hand with a sustainable local economy. We integrate renewable energy sources as part of a watershed implementation approach as many of the sources of pollution in runoff are derived from fossil fuels and create global problems including ocean acidification, climate change and the contamination of stormwater runoff.
