About Rights Initiative

Rights Initiative is an independent non-governmental organization advancing economic and social rights. We are inspired by people who stand up for their rights. To achieve human rights for all, it is essential to substantially increase investment in public services. To strategically pursue our mission to ‘uncover the political economy of human rights and increase the resources of civil society activists in the global South, we trial innovative shift-the-power ways of working. We take a reflective approach and challenge convention. We prioritize dialogue with and listening to social movements, civil society, and media organizations. We develop partnerships to help scale-up fundraising, policy advocacy and campaigns. We co-create, support or take on sub-grantee roles, trialing innovative and #decolonizingaid ways of working. Our co-creation services include: - Networking: Connecting rights-based organizations around the world for (South-South) learning, influencing and alliance building. - Fundraising: Co-creating and formulating project proposals, funding strategies, identifying and networking with potential donors. - Advising: Organizational and strategic review, theory of change, results monitoring, project and campaign management, reporting and evaluation. - Policy Analysis: in thematic areas related to public finance to advance economic and social rights. - Training: Customized, for example, in power analysis, advocacy strategy or social accountability. We take action to: - Generate and co-create knowledge to shift-the-power and shape rights-based narratives promoting public finance for human rights. - Strengthen the voice and agency of social movements and civil society organizations in the global South. - Build alliances and influence policies to advance economic and social rights.
