About RiseUp Malawi

Every day, young people in Malawi face tremendous barriers to education: among these challenges are life threatening diseases like malaria & HIV/AIDS, malnutrition & hunger, child marriages, & long distance commutes on foot to school, to name a few. Our mission is to provide opportunities to EDUCATE youth in Malawi, INSPIRE young minds through knowledge acquisition and the Word of God, and EMPOWER young learners by equipping them with the skills required to create a future of self-reliance. We currently support four educational initiatives in our community: a free, after-school computer skills training program for students of all ages, a scholarship program for youth who are eager to complete their highschool education, a music program in which students can have a safe place to talk about social issues like HIV/AIDS & child marriages through song & dance, and a farming training program for the parents of our students to learn better farming practices & techniques. At RiseUp Malawi we value relationships & processes over projects & products, sustainability over quick fixes, and community initiated participation over paternalism. Our goal is to empower our community one young learner at a time to be self-reliant in the near future, not dependent on handouts. "Go to the people. Live among them. Learn from them. Love them.
