About River of Flowers

River of Flowers is a nonprofit, social enterprise company working with community groups and other organisations to create trails or 'rivers' of wildflowers as forage and habitat for bees, butterflies and other pollinators in urban landscapes. River of Flowers is an evocative way of describing the flight path of the pollinators along the flow of wildflowers they depend on. We also connect all the organisations planting wildflowers and supporting pollinators in cities around the world. The River of Flowers team can advise on species of wildflowers and wild flowering trees suitable for growing with edible food crops and in urban locations such as on buildings (roofs, balconies, walls), along lines of transport (roadways, railways, waterways), in public areas such as parks and playgrounds as well as reclaimed vacant lots and abandoned areas. We also develop projects concerned with raising awareness of the importance of urban bees and other pollinators to our own food supply, linking with artists and scientists to develop imaginative approaches to improving the urban environment for pollinators and mapping wildflowers to their pollinators. Our directors and 'seeding group' advisors have a range of skills and specialisms including botany, entomology, horticulture, landscape design, ethnobotany, environmental and sustainability research as well as film and music production.
