About RIZE Magazine

RIZE – RESIST – RECLAIM Our purpose is to bring more diverse stories to the forefront. Everything we feature prioritizes the perspectives, experiences, and needs of the systematically excluded. Art is vital to revolutionary practice and movements. RIZE intends to be an instrument of amplification of art that expresses the conditions of an unjust society and facilitates healing. RIZE is a place that centers and amplifies those ideas, experiences, and perspectives in a way that honors and celebrates our unique stories, validates our experiences, and inspires – utilizing art to educate, heal and activate those around us. If people of culture aren’t shaping our own stories, then our stories aren’t getting told. White heteronormative media leaders too often control the narrative. Present-day conglomerates may fill the most necessary spaces with enough Black and Brown creatives to save face, but many of these self-proclaimed culture-shifting platforms are not owned or run by the people or communities that birthed the art form. RIZE’s most meaningful goals are representation and elevating systematically excluded journalists, photographers, videographers, and creatives of culture in coverage of artists of culture that decolonize and deconstruct the status quo.
