About Road to Relief
Road to Relief was established as an NGO in March 2022, with the specific purpose of providing humanitarian efforts in light of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Our main goal: evacuating people from the areas most affected by the war For the past month, Road to Relief has carried out a thorough and comprehensive analysis of the different routes connecting the evacuation hotspots and transit points from which we operate. Our Field Operations team has mapped key elements for all of the routes and transit cities we will be using for the evacuation operations, and our evacuation drivers constantly update the information regarding these routes. Our evacuation routes are likely to change in order to adapt to the changing circumstances, but our Mapping and Intelligence team is constantly gathering information to keep the routes safe and efficient. We have identified a number of shelters in all of the transit cities along our routes, where the individuals being evacuated can seek refuge and rest for as long as needed. We have created partnerships and connections with local administration and military, government-run shelters, as well as volunteer-led initiatives in Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk, Ternopil, Khmelnytskyi, Lutsk, Rivne, Vinnytsia, Uman, and Kropyvnytskyi, among others. All this pre-evacuation setup allows our Case Managers to enforce the humanitarian guarantees regarding the safety and dignity of all evacuations, adapted to each particular situation. Each Case Manager follows one individual or family throughout the evacuation route. Hence, upon arrival at the transit point, the Case Managers are responsible for contacting the appropriate authorities (CNAP, the Department of Social Policy and/or the Local Humanitarian Centers) and arranging for temporary accommodation and humanitarian aid (food, water, hygiene products, etc.).
