About Rock Mechanics Laboratory

Rock Mechanics Laboratory CC (RML) is a private company that was originally established in 2003 and reinstated in 2018. RML runs its business in rock mechanics testing, training and research. RML is situated in the old support testing facility of CSIR in Johannesburg at the corner of Carlow and Rustenburg Roads, Building 3, Melville, Gauteng, South Africa. The CSIR building is occupied on a long-term rental basis. Core Capabilities The core business activity is mainly in the rock mechanics (geotechnical) and support testing. The state-of-the-art testing equipment, using advanced technologies, is acquired. Special tests and model experiments are accommodated as required, in cooperation with the client. In addition, involvement in the collaborative research projects and hands on training and education of mine-based rock engineering trainees are offered. The owner of the RML has 24 years of hands-on experience in rock testing. He did extensive lecturing and research during his time at Wits University at both undergraduate and post-graduate levels in rock mechanics/rock engineering as an associate professor.
