About Roots to Shoots
We are trying to connect in people’s mind the effects of deforestation and how that affects the development of drugs in years to come. Roots to Shoots is a unique project which is split in two parts: 1) Research into medicines of the tropical rainforest 2) An outreach programme targeted at young people As winners of last year’s National Science and Engineering Competition, Deepesh Patel and Raghd Rostom are enthusiastic about this truly ambitious project which not only involves specific scientific research but also focuses on a broader global picture, highlighting environmental problems to target a wider audience. Roots to Shoots will be showcasing at several festivals and events in the UK and Europe. Additional sponsorship is still required to; further fund the research that will be undertaken in Peruvian Amazon, to allow both of the scientists to attend the planned scientific conferences and to continue a successful public outreach campaign upon return to the UK after the research has been conducted.
