Ross Cottage Nursery School is a preschool located in Kentfield, California, serving children ages 2 to 5 years old. Our thoughtfully balanced approach to early childhood education blends the safety and consistency of structure with the freedom and wonder of imaginative play. At Ross Cottage, we believe young children thrive in environments where they can both predict the rhythm of their day and feel empowered to explore, create, and take initiative. Our educational philosophy is inspired by Reggio Emilia, Waldorf, and Montessori methods, while remaining flexible and responsive to each child’s unique needs. This blend has evolved into our own Zoila-Shaffer educational model, which supports the development of the whole child, emotionally, socially, and academically. Our small group size allows our teachers to give each child a high level of individual attention. We offer a Specialized Toddler Group for our youngest learners that focuses on fine and gross motor skill development, early tracking worksheets, building autonomy, and fostering social skills. Children are introduced to potty training, basic concepts like shapes, colors, letters, and numbers, and creative experiences through art, gardening, and music. For our older children, the TK Group builds readiness for kindergarten through activities that include pre-writing and reading skills, phonetic sound awareness, sight word recognition, and age-appropriate name writing. We encourage confidence through age-appropriate tasks and exploration of early math and science concepts, alongside continued focus on creative enrichment through art, gardening, and music. Through mixed-age interaction and collaborative play, children learn how to support one another and take on leadership roles as they grow. At Ross Cottage, we are proud to nurture capable, compassionate, and confident young learners who feel secure in themselves and connected to the world around them.
