"I started making jewelry when I was about 12 or 13," says Robyne Robinson, creator and chief designer of Rox Minneapolis Jewelry. "My mother didn't have the money to buy a whole bunch of Christmas presents on a teacher's salary --. She made it a fun trip to the bead store with my sister, and we'd make designs for all our friends." Robyne found herself making beautiful necklaces, bracelets and earrings to meet the demands of friends, when there was a divine encounter -- . "A gentlemen across the dinner table from me asked if I’d be interested in selling Rox professionally.” Unbeknownst to her, it was Frank Guzzetta, former president of Macy’s North. Soon, the former news anchor found her designs gracing the cases of Macy’s stores throughout the Midwest. "I love using semi-precious stones in my jewelry - Amber or Carnelian, Jade; there are so many different types of rocks and stones used for health, beauty, spirituality and trade, from the Pharaohs until today. We just have a natural attraction to the rocks under our feet." Rox Minneapolis Jewelry sells in nearly a dozen boutiques throughout the Twin Cities area, as well as Santa Fe NM, Tampa, Naples FL, New York, Athens, Greece. Cancun and Anguilla BVI. Rox has been featured in several national and international publications, such as Redbook, SideView UK, Seventeen, and Today's Black Woman. Rox has also been seen on WGN-TV and The Tyra Banks Show.
