About Royal Geographical Society of South Australia
The Royal Geographical Society of South Australia (RGSSA) is a voluntary, not-for-profit organisation for advancing geographical science and promoting public awareness, appreciation, and enjoyment of Geography and related topics. The Society was founded in Adelaide on 10 July 1885 and is custodian of an extensive library of antique, rare and current books and maps. Amongst its various activities the Society organises lectures on topical issues, publishes a scholarly journal, recognises contributions to geography through an active awards program, and convenes an active field activities program. The RGSSA is a non-for profit organisation with a broad-based membership that supports its mission and aims. It welcomes professional geographers, geography graduates, and all those with an enthusiasm for geography, travel and exploration to join. The Society acknowledges that the land upon which we usually meet is the traditional land of the Kaurna people. We respect the Kaurna people's deep spiritual relationship and connection with their country. We honour Kaurna people, both past and present, and acknowledge the significance of Kaurna cultural and heritage beliefs today. We also acknowledge Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander visitors to Kaurna country recognising you too as traditional custodians of your country. We support the principles of a reconciled Australia for all its people in the interests of a better Australia and our young people - tomorrow’s leaders.
