About Roylancer Distillery Co

Roylancer Distillery Co. was founded by two brothers, Benjamin and Robert Roylance, who share a passion for vodka and whisky. Their vision is to create unique, locally crafted spirits that not only satisfy customers but also support the local community. The distilling adventure officially began in July 2020, although Benjamin and Robert had been planning the venture since 2016. During the first two years, Roylancer Distillery Co. operated as a production-only distillery, with bottles available for purchase online or from select liquor stores in South Australia. However, it wasn't until early 2023 that the doors of the shopfront finally opened to the public, inviting them to experience and savour their products firsthand. Interestingly, the distillery is housed in the town's former butcher shop, a heritage building dating back to 1867 and originally owned by the Baseby family. With walls over two feet thick, the building naturally maintains a cool temperature, making it an ideal space for producing and aging craft whisky. The butcher shop's smoker room and two cool rooms have been cleverly repurposed for this purpose. The distillery name "Roylancer" takes its name from the brothers' surname, "Roylancer," which can be traced back to Norman nobles during medieval Britain. The Roylancer family was granted ownership of farmlands, known as 'rye lands,' as a result of their contributions to the victory in the Battle of Hastings around 1066 AD. They had faithfully served William, Duke of Normandy, also known as William the Conqueror. Since then, the Roylancer family has held their own coat of arms, and their motto, "Non-Ultima" in Latin, translates to "Not the Last" in English.
