Ruba Design was born when interior designer, Sonia Attard and award-winning designer, Lisa Vincitorio (Fruit Loop and Zucch) explored ways to use recycled tyre matting – used in flooring and childrens’ playgrounds – in homewares. The exciting new collection includes placemats, coasters, mousepads and desksets. With a strong environmental focus, the designs are made from recycled tyres, won’t bend out of shape, are warm and inviting to touch, waterproof, heat resistant, dishwasher safe, non-slip and you can have any colour as long as it’s black! You can get other colours from other suppliers, but they cannot claim to be made from recycled rubber as there is no way to dye black tyres. The Moroccan, Diamond, Floral and Basic designs are stylish and provide a talking piece on any table with a special story to tell. Ruba Design sourced the recycled matting from Regupol is imported from Germany as they could not locate an Australian company which could guarantee consistent quality in the rubber. Made up of car and truck tyres from Germany and all over Europe as well as left overs from shoe soles from Spain! The material itself can also be recycled again, so Ruba homewares are recyclable! A Melbourne manufacturer has been appointed to bring the designs to life.
