Mit der ambulanten Newlands Clinic in Simbabwes Hauptstadt Harare, der Ausbildung von Fachleuten und Forschung will die spendenfinanzierte Stiftung die Krankheit langfristig bekämpfen. Simbabwe ist eines der ärmsten Länder Afrikas und zählt rund 1,3 Millionen Menschen, die mit HIV infiziert oder bereits an Aids erkrankt sind, und jedes Jahr sterben 20 000 Menschen an den Folgen der Krankheit. Mithilfe der Newlands Clinic betreut die Ruedi Lüthy Foundation rund 8 000 HIV-Patientinnen und -Patienten aus ärmsten Verhältnissen. ---- The Ruedi Lüthy Foundation (formerly Swiss Aids Care International) was founded by Swiss Aids specialist Prof. Ruedi Lüthy. The foundation works in southern Africa, where the Aids epidemic is most widespread. We want to combat this disease over the long term, by caring for HIV patients at Newlands Clinic in the Zimbabwean capital of Harare, by training healthcare professionals, and by engaging in research. Zimbabwe is one of the poorest countries in Africa, and has 1.3 million people who are infected with HIV or have already developed Aids, and 20,000 people are still dying from Aids every year. At Newlands Clinic, the Ruedi Lüthy Foundation provides care for about 8,000 patients from the poorest backgrounds.
