Rural and Remote Mental Health help rural and remote Australia start the conversation about mental health through their comprehensive, evidenced-based mental health awareness, early intervention and suicide prevention programs, culturally tailored to people living and working in rural and remote Australia. Our tailored programs include practical workshops designed to destigmatise mental ill-health and deliver information about mental health, well-being and suicide prevention for those in mining, resources and quarrying operations (Resource Minds), Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples (Deadly Thinking) & agricultural and farming groups and families (Rural Minds). Prevention and early interventions are critical to achieving better mental health outcomes; the objectives for these programs are to: 1. deliver culturally targeted and demonstrably effective primary prevention; 2. raise awareness of risk factors, reduce mental ill-health stigma and prevent suicides; 3. educate and train natural helpers and community leaders so as to embed these skills and knowledge in rural and remote communities where access to health and/or mental-health clinicians is either severely limited or non-existent; 4. educate individuals, families and communities with pathways to help; 5. evaluate and translate the outcomes. Programs can be implemented in collaboration with other organisations delivering mental health and social emotional wellbeing information.
