About "S-ART" Proyecto Aeroespacial Estudiantil Universitario
The "S-ART" project aims to introduce students to the world of the aerospace and astronomy sector during their university years. Its objective is to put into orbit a CubeSat completely designed and manufactured by the members of the project. This satellite will include a radio astronomy antenna to study the radio waves emitted by the Sun. The project began in February 2024 and aims to be a collaboration between the Galileo Club of the European University of Madrid (UEM) and the COSMOS Aerospace Association of the Rey Juan Carlos University (URJC). The students involved will have learned, in a self-taught way, valuable knowledge about the organization of space missions, teamwork, astronomy and satellite operation. Currently, we have 90 students enrolled, mainly belonging to the area of engineering and physical sciences studies. These students have been organized into multidisciplinary work groups, which enriches the project with a wide range of perspectives and knowledge. Participants receive training from professors from UEM and URJC, as well as professionals from the sector, who give unpaid and voluntary training lectures on CubeSat satellites, organization of space missions, satellite control, radio astronomy, radiation and antennas. We have established strategic contacts with important entities in the aerospace sector, including NASA and ESA, thanks to the collaboration of professionals from these institutions who participated in our training and decided to support us in the development of the project. The Project was selected to participate in the Fly Your Satellite! Design Booster 2 Edition program, from ESA Academy. 7 of our leaders went to their ESTEC center in November 2024 to receive 1 week of very high-level training classes, related to all the components and functions of a space mission.
