About Sacramento County Young Democrats

The Sacramento County Young Democrats pledge to pursue the ideas of liberty, justice, and freedom for all regardless of race, religion, sexual orientation, or sex. Our purpose is to stimulate in young people an active interest in government affairs, increase the efficiency of popular government, maintain viability of our free institutions, and contribute to the growth and influence of the ideals and philosophy of the Democratic Party and to have fun and network while achieving these goals. SCYD is comprised of Democrats ages 18-35 that live or work in Sacramento County and is the largest Young Democrats chapter in California. Predecessor local Young Democrats groups have existed in Sacramento County since at least the 1960s. In the early 2000s, a merger between a Capitol-focused Young Democrats club and a local-focused Young Democrats club gave way to the current organization. Sacramento County Young Democrats members connect and build community through monthly membership meetings, happy hours, and committee meetings. Club members are very active; volunteering to walk precincts, phone bank and fund raise for candidates and issues they care about. Throughout the year, club members regularly give back to the Sacramento area through frequent community service opportunities. In recent years, the Sacramento County Young Democrats has become increasingly involved in the Sacramento County political community and looks forward to continuing to partner with other Democratic clubs, Democratic public officials and candidates, and community leaders and organizations.
