About Safer Medicines Trust

Safer Medicines Trust exists to protect patients by improving preclinical drug safety testing through increased use of technologies based on human biology. We organised a Human Tissues Conference in the House of Lords (www.safermedicines.org/humantissues). This conference was the launchpad for the Human Tissues Group, which brings together researchers, biobank specialists, pathologists, surgeons and patients to discuss the key issues in human tissue research, and how it may be facilitated. We also hosted an international conference at the Royal Society: Speed & Safety in Drug Discovery (www.drugtestingconference.com), which served as a platform for pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies and regulatory authorities to discuss the current drug development process, present new technologies and discuss the new paradigms of drug development using human, rather than animal biology.
