About Safety Engineering International (SEI)
After 10 years of vehicle rollover crash research and investigation, the Principles at SEI determined that severe injury was occurring in rollover crashes primarily when the A-Pillar and Windshield Header collapsed under the forces exerted on the roof and intruded into the Occupant Compartment such that the victim was hit in the head or suffered a broken neck or spinal injury. The Principles then designed and built the Jordan Rollover System (JRS) to dynamic test vehicles under these real world circumstances. Over 300 tests were performed on more than 50 different vehicle types. This solidified our hypothesis and we proceeded to design and build a device that would prevent the roof from crushing in that pattern. The goal was to redistribute the loads rearward and across more of the surface area of the vehicle structure and to specifically reinforce the B-Pillar to prevent bending at the Occupants head area. From our research and prototype testing we successfully designed a device that does just what we wanted. Named the HALO™ (High Attenuation Load Offset), this device is the State-of-the-Art in Rollover Damage Minimization Devices (RDMD) for Light Vehicles including trucks, suv's and vans as a Rollover Occupant Protection System (ROPS). HALO™ is easy to install, unobtrusive, strong and light weight. HALO™ stands alone: by significantly reducing roof crush and crush speed, (testing results) the HALO™ saves lives by preventing roof collapse without interfering with internal safety devices or significantly modifying the vehicle. To date, the HALO™ has saved hundreds of lives in more than 20 countries around the world. Photos can be found on our website at www.safetyei.com or www.HALOROPS.com
