Safion Renewables Inc. is a biotechnology company transforming renewable feedstocks into high-purity, low-carbon fuels and chemicals. Backed by strategic investors in aviation, our proprietary Cocura platform harnesses microbial fermentation to produce a low-carbon intensity (CI) bio-oil from waste biomass and other renewable feedstocks. Cocura oil is a versatile commodity product with uses spanning flavors, fragrances, pharmaceuticals, and biofuels. Notably, Cocura oil is compatible with the Hydroprocessed Esters and Fatty Acids (HEFA) process for producing Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), helping to address the most critical bottlenecks in the SAF industry: limited and expensive lipid feedstocks. In parallel, Safion is deploying a highly-flexible breakthrough process for producing valuable bio-based solvents from renewable feedstocks. Acetonitrile, a solvent critical to the pharmaceutical and analytical chemistry industries, represents the first target within Safion’s solvent portfolio. To date, Safion has successfully produced acetonitrile samples with the highest purity on the market and a ~90% reduction in carbon intensity versus traditional fossil-based processes.
