About Safis Publishing

Safis Publishing is a new, independent publishing house that publishes non-fiction books on all aspects of Islam. There are many publishers that publish books on Islam among other topics, and others that focus exclusively on Islam. The uniqueness of Safis as a publisher is in combining an Islamic identity with progressive, creative, and critical thinking about Islamic topics and issues. This is why we have defined a broad Islamic framework that consists of the following four fundamental principles: • Islam is a religion that was revealed by God • Muhammad is the final Prophet • The Qur’an is the Word of God that was revealed to Prophet Muhammad • Islam is a religion of compassion, peace, and tolerance This framework represents the broadest description of Islam, accommodating various Islamic views and interpretations. It provides Muslim writers and readers with a safe environment that promotes creative and progressive thinking about Islam, without threatening the fundamentals of their faith. Safis publications apply the power of reason and analysis to various aspects of Islam from within this Islamic framework. Safis does not call for a rethinking of Islam that would mean changing the self-image of the religion as presented in its primary source, the Qur’an. Instead, Safis promotes a process of continuous rethinking within an accommodating Islamic framework. Safis publications are not expected to be written only by Muslims. Anyone who has something interesting to say about any aspect of Islam, and writes within this Islamic framework, is welcome to submit proposals. Indeed, Safis Publishing actively encourages contributions from non-Muslim authors. Our Vision is to promote a richer and more inclusive understanding of Islam, including its literature, thought, practice, history, and role in the world. Our Mission is to provide trusted, high quality resources for the general reader on various aspects of Islam.
