About Saint John's Hospice
Established in 1963 by Monsignor Anthony J. O’Neill, Pastor of Saint John the Evangelist Church, and The Little Brothers of The Good Shepherd, Saint John’s Hospice (SJH) was created as an outreach ministry to serve and assist those experiencing homelessness and poverty in the community. SJH, a ministry of Catholic Social Services of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, continues to provide crucial, life-sustaining services with dignity, respect and compassion to individuals and families experiencing homelessness in Philadelphia. Services provided are as follows: - Residence for over 150 men experiencing homelessness each year in the SJH and Good Shepherd programs - Over 130,000 meals each year to individuals experiencing homelessness and poverty - 15,500 showers with clean clothing, underwear and shoes annually - Mailroom services for over 1700 men experiencing homelessness - Case management and access to medical and behavioral healthcare offered for all residents and day services guests - Emergency drop-in shelter for individuals experiencing homelessness where they can receive a hot meal, shower, clean clothing, and a safe place to sleep every night of the year All of this is possible thanks to the on-going support of individual donors and organizations that believe in SJH’s mission and support its good work.
