About Salt Lake Internet eXchange

As a major Internet Exchange Point, Salt Lake Internet Exchange (SLIX) bridges major content providers and Internet-based companies and organizations in an effort to reduce latency and increase peering. SLIX is a neutral and open IXP that connects over 30 peers and sustains peak traffic well exceeding one Terabit. SLIX supports both IPv4 and IPv6 protocols and offers 24/7 support to its members. SLIX also provides route servers and collectors to simplify peering and monitor traffic. XMission, one of America’s original Internet service providers, founded SLIX in 2013 and currently manages the exchange in downtown Salt Lake City, Utah. Businesses participating on an Internet Exchange Point (IXP) receive several benefits, such as reduced latency, improved performance via shorter routes (particularly for customers in Utah and neighboring states), increased redundancy, and lower overall costs. SLIX also offers unique access to major content providers and cloud services, such as Amazon, Google, Microsoft, Cloudflare, and Twitch. Customers can connect to SLIX at the XMission Data Center, C7 Social Hall, Level3 Delong, or EdgeConneX—all located in Salt Lake City, Utah. Those customers who colocate in XMission’s Data Center will receive free cross connects to SLIX.
