About Salt Ponds Coalition
Our Mission: We protect and enhance the health of Rhode Island salt ponds for the benefit of wildlife and people. How You Can Help: Your contribution supports our efforts to protect and enhance the irreplaceable salt ponds that make Rhode Island the special place you want to be. Join as a member ore renew today at https://www.joinsaltponds.com Highlights of Our Work: SPC is the oldest marine water monitor program in the country, and the only RI organization that reports on the health of the salt ponds. We work with the University of Rhode Island’s Watershed Watch and SPC Citizen Scientists to manage 20 water-testing sites across 6 ponds and publish the results on our website. SPC works with local, state and federal agencies on environmental initiatives that help preserve the natural abundance of the salt ponds. We help restore the salt marsh habitat in Rhode Island's salt ponds to improve water quality and channel navigation. Enhancing the natural beauty and health of salt ponds contributes to Rhode Island’s vital economic climate of tourism, fishing and water recreation. SPC is committed to assuring that future generations enjoy the recreation and beauty of the ponds. We deliver FREE educational programming, featuring Salt Pond Safaris, Barrier Beach Walks, Student Field Trips, and Kayak Tours. Vigorously educating others on the natural, cultural and historical significance of the salt ponds helps us fulfill our mission to preserve salt ponds for the enjoyment of wildlife and people.
