Saltwater Eco Tours is an exciting Sunshine Coast based tourism company forging a deeper connection to Australia's Indigenous culture through unique marine experiences onboard a beautifully restored 114-year-old vessel. Operating on the peaceful waterways of the Mooloolah River the company is the first of its kind, combining Indigenous culture, maritime history, and live music. Launched in early 2020, the company realises the vision of Simon Thornalley, a young Indigenous man of Torres Strait Island descent who was born on the Sunshine Coast and introduced to his sailing lifestyle by his parents who were world class sailors themselves. The vision was to establish a unique marine experience that would inspire a deeper connection to Indigenous culture and the ocean. Collaboration with local Traditional Owners of the Kabi Kabi/ Gubbi Gubbi First Nation people ensures that Saltwater Eco Tours delivers an authentic visitor experience, sharing the timeless wisdom of the world’s oldest continuous living cultures, the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Alongside his partner Jenna, Traditional Owner Aunty Bridgette Chilli and their experienced and passionate crew members, the company prides themselves in authenticity, friendliness and a genuine love for what they do.
