saltyfaces is a creative studio based in Berlin. The idea for the studio roots in a journey to São Tomé and Princípe where social inequality is still a topic for young saotomense women. After living in Santana, a costal surfing village, for 5 months around these young women as a surf Buddy at SOMA Surf the saltyface’s founder Julia got inspired to pick up her camera again – and found her purpose in documenting surfing communities. Through powerful documentary photography Julia supports different Organisations, NGOs and Brands to work against gender inequality, support mental health and other social issues and to showcase the raw talent, unwavering drive, and cultural significance of surfing for African youth. No matter if you are surfing yourself, you are a part of an organisation, hosting Retreats or a brand – if you identify with these values and are passionate about the ocean, let’s ride this wave together. 🐚
