About San Antonio Adventure Therapy

I was working with a teenaged girl and her father during a family counseling session in the outdoors one morning. As we began the session, they talked about wanting to connect and understand each other better. The girl expressed that it had been a while since she even felt loved. She fought back tears which led her dad to do the same. In response, I asked them each to find an object in nature that represents love. Before I could elaborate on the instructions, the girl exclaimed, "I found mine!" as she shot her index finger towards the sky behind me. I glanced backward, not quite sure to what she was drawing her father's and my attention. She clarified, "The sun!" I wondered about the connection she made and was moved when she explained, "Even if you don't always see it, it's there." It's these kinds of experiences that help keep me grounded as a family counselor and adventure therapist. And San Antonio Adventure Therapy is founded on the importance of connections between family members who love each other. Through experiential learning activities and strength-based conversations, we work with your family to unlock important conversations about connection, trust, self-confidence, and support of one another. We also explore how helping professionals rejuvenate and reconnect to joy when the toll of caring for others begins to surface in our lives and relationships with others.
