About San Antonio Council on Alcohol and Drug Awareness
MISSION: Empowering our community to live healthy lives by providing prevention, intervention, and recovery support services for children and adults. Established in 1957, the San Antonio Council on Alcohol and Drug Awareness initially focused on supporting adults with alcoholism, later expanding to address drug addiction. In 1987, youth prevention programs were introduced, aiming to educate children about addiction as a preventable disease and alleviate familial burdens. Services provided by SACADA include: YOUTH PREVENTION PROGRAMS: Evidence-based curriculum delivered in schools across Bexar and surrounding counties, serving elementary to high school students at no cost. INTERVENTION, TREATMENT & RECOVERY SUPPORT SERVICES: Recovery coaches aid individuals transitioning from treatment, offering assistance with housing, employment, court obligations, and peer recovery groups free of charge. ASSESSMENTS & REFERRALS: Providing comprehensive drug and alcohol assessments recognized by the Texas Board of Law Examiners, for adults in-state and out-of-state. COMMUNITY COALITIONS: Establishing coalitions in various counties to promote drug-free communities through partnerships and public awareness campaigns. PREVENTION, EDUCATION & TRAINING: Serving as a prevention training hub for Region 8, offering court-mandated courses and education on drug and alcohol trends. PRESENTATIONS: Conducting sessions for professionals, youth, adults, clergy, and educators on drug and alcohol-related topics at no cost. In February 2022, SACADA expanded its services to the Texas Hill Country by acquiring the Hill Country Council on Alcohol & Drug Abuse (HCCADA). Mrs. Abigail Moore assumed the CEO role for both organizations, facilitating SACADA's extension into the region.
