About San Felice Toscana A.D. 714
Benvenuti nell’antica Pieve San Felice in Pincis. La sua storia affonda le radici nell’epoca etrusca, attraversa il Papato, viene contesa dai comuni di Firenze e Siena, e vede alternarsi la gestione di famiglie locali. L’ultima sono i Grisaldi Del Taja, tra i fondatori del Consorzio del Chianti Classico, nella prima metà del Novecento. Negli anni 70 inizia un nuovo modello di sviluppo: la tenuta è acquisita dal Gruppo Allianz che punta sull’eccellenza enologica e territoriale. L’azienda dà inizio a un esteso programma di reimpianto dei vigneti, con l’obiettivo di valorizzare il Sangiovese; progetto affiancato da una ricerca scientifica sui vitigni autoctoni, in collaborazione con le Università di Firenze e Pisa. Nel 1982 viene acquisita anche la tenuta di Campogiovanni, 20 ettari di vigneto sulle colline di Montalcino, altro territorio di grande tradizione viti-vinicola e, nel 2016, nella prestigiosa area di Bolgheri da cui nascono i vini del nuovo brand Bell’Aja. Oggi il Borgo e San Felice sono due realtà di successo con un’anima sola, che unisce tradizione e innovazione. . San Felice is recognised as an innovative estate, partly because of its ability to spot trends before they develop and partly because of its intense research and experimentation. At the same time, however, its production style accentuates the uniqueness and typical character of its territory by retaining a close attachment to tradition. The estate’s history confirms this status, as witness the creation of Vigorello in the late 1960s, which marked a new approach to winemaking and was the forerunner of the famous Supertuscans. This was followed in the 1970s by the creation of Poggio Rosso, a first, and at the time rare, example of a Chianti Classico ‘cru’. But it was perhaps the estate’s early research into indigenous grape varieties in the late 1980s, that brought the San Felice production philosophy to full fruition.
