About San Gabriel Valley Symphony
Founded in 2025 as a special initiative of Arts Bridging The Gap and in living memory of the victims of the Monterey Park mass shooting, the San Gabriel Valley Symphony is dedicated to community resilience and the transformative power of music. Co-founders Albert Lu and Alex Deng, both natives of the San Gabriel Valley, developed a deep passion for music during their formative years, even amid limited support for the arts in their schools. Their journey was shaped by dedicated educators working with constrained resources, who did everything possible to nurture the musical talents of their students. Growing up without a major arts institution, Albert and Alex were inspired to create a platform that empowers young people in the community to pursue music and make a lasting impact on the arts. The symphony is a collaborative effort to redefine symphonic music and establish the San Gabriel Valley as an epicenter for the arts. Led by Music Director Henry Shin and Artistic Director Alex Deng, the SGV Symphony brings together professional musicians from Los Angeles and beyond, many with personal ties to the region. Our programming blends classical masterworks with music by emerging composers in film, television, video games, and contemporary genres—reflecting the diverse voices and stories of the community we serve.
