About Sandy Springs Education Force
MISSION STATEMENT To create opportunities that educate, inspire and prepare public school students in Sandy Springs for a competitive world. WHAT WE DO SSEF designs and implements free supplemental programs to engage, support and encourage economically disadvantaged public school students to excel academically, finish high school and then continue to a vocation or to college. While SSEF sponsored programs are focused on the economically disadvantaged student, SSEF does not discriminate; any student may participate - however, a small fee is sometimes required. MAIN PROGRAMS Science, technology, engineering, arts and math (STEAM) Literacy After-School Programs Mentoring HOW WE DO IT SSEF creates programs at the request of a principal so all programs are embedded in the culture of each particular school. SSEF collaborates with community organizations and businesses to bring individuals into the school to serve as role models, mentors, advisors, tutors or instructors to work with students under the supervision of a school administrator or teacher. SSEF partners with school and secures community resources to support each program. WHY WE DO IT The city of Sandy Springs has been named one of the wealthiest cities in the U.S., yet almost 60% of public school children are economically disadvantaged. Poverty is a key indicator for high drop-out rates, drug abuse and criminal activity. SSEF is based on the premise that all of our city's children have the potential to succeed in school, lead productive lives and contribute to our community. SSEF believes that the future of Sandy Springs -- residential, economic and quality of life -- depends on students' educational success.
