Many men live their lives searching for something to give meaning to their existence: for Renzo, Luciano’s grandfather, that meaning lay in the land. On the night of the shooting stars, the night of Sanlorenzo, after having made a wish that still today passes from father to son, Renzo bequeathed the land that he had struggled to conquer to Bramante, who gave it the name of Sanlorenzo. Bramante added more land, covered with centuries-old forest, to that of his father, and with his own hands and the sweat of his brow gave life to olive orchards and what would become the gem of Sanlorenzo, the four princesses, that is, the vineyards that now produce the grapes for two of the best-known wines in the world: Rosso di Montalcino and Brunello di Montalcino. This is how Sanlorenzo was born: its very name stands for the meaning of a man’s existence, love for his family, and respect for hard work. In time Bramante was joined by Paolo, who married his daughter, and who believed like his father-in-law did in that land, so difficult to work but so generous in the quality of the fruit it could give. And then Luciano, Paolo’s son, was born. He grew up watching his father and grandfather at work, inherited their values, their fund of experience, and all their traditions. But making good wine was not enough for Luciano: he sought excellence. He looked at the world, looked all around him, looked at the horizons. He learned that, in addition to working in the vineyard, he had to know other worlds, compare himself with other men, and above all, research and experiment. This is how Sanlorenzo was born and grew, beginning with just one man’s dream, and then becoming a dream come true that has been passed down for five generations
