SantaFe HealthCare dates back to the early 1980s, beginning as a group of community hospitals and physician practices serving North Central Florida. In 1986, SantaFe acquired AvMed, taking the company in a new direction, and in 1990 acquired The Village, a Gainesville retirement community. In 1996, SantaFe divested its hospitals to focus on its growing health plan, hospice and retirement community. Today, SantaFe HealthCare is a thriving company with more than $1 billion in annual revenues, located on a 170-acre Health Park Campus in Gainesville, Florida. Poised for growth, SantaFe provides a continuum of care options to Floridians through all stages of life—whether it be health benefits through AvMed, a SantaFe Senior Living retirement community, or personalized palliative and end-of-life care at Haven Hospice. Santa Fe is a prominent name in Gainesville and Alachua County. In 1539, Hernando de Soto led nearly 500 Spanish soldiers on an exploration through Florida.
