About Sarasota School of Massage Therapy
At SSMT we have a profound respect for both the opportunity and responsibility our work offers us as health care practitioners. The training we offer is carefully designed to develop knowledge, skill and sensitivity, and towards this end the school provides an atmosphere of safety and support. It is the school’s philosophy that our own self-awareness has a direct bearing on our sensitivity to our clients; as we pay attention to our own growth, and stretch into life, we encourage those around us to do the same. Students at SSMT give and receive a substantial amount of massage and bodywork; they also engage in a variety of movement practices. Throughout these endeavors there is an ever-constant reminder to pay attention to their own experience. This sensory awareness can be a catalyst for transformation in both our clients and ourselves. This is the promise and the beauty of bodywork. It is the purpose of SSMT to train students for a career in massage therapy and to create a learning environment in which the journey is as valuable as the destination. It is also our aim to equip students with the ability to make the most of further education in bodywork. In doing so we strive to graduate mindful, creative, knowledgeable professionals who will use their skill and compassion to benefit themselves and their communities. Finally, it is our intention to have fun. In addition to being transformative, the classroom experience is filled with camaraderie, respect and laughter. The instructors foster an atmosphere that stimulates the desire to learn and students respond by discovering the joy of learning. We also have the most delicious pot-luck meals during break-times and holiday parties. Sometimes we hold classes on the beach. The bonds of friendship and connections that are formed here are difficult to describe and can only be experienced.
