About Saundersfoot Harbour
Established in 1829, Saundersfoot Harbour was originally built to export the quantities of high quality anthracite mined in the locality across the globe. Today, the Trust Port of Saundersfoot is a bustling fishing harbour, with a fleet of full-time fishing operatives, as well as providing internal dry, wet, and visitor moorings, berths, pontoons, a public slipway, boat lifts and storage. Home to the Wales International Coastal Centre, Saundersfoot Harbour is currently undergoing Phase 2 of its development to provide an all-year, all-weather visitor attraction. The Wales International Coastal Centre is a £10 million development funded by the EU Funding Bodies, Welsh Government and Coastal Communities Fund, and comprises of four linked facilties including the Marine Centre of Excellence, Ocean Square, National Events Deck, and Coastal Schooner. Ocean Square, located in the heart of the village, consists of a covered Events Plaza, and 16 retail units, approx. 14 Ocean Cabins (short stay accommodation) and the Welcome & Heritage Centre which will act as an information point for visitors to Saundersfoot, and the first of three new interpretation centres, which will explore Saundersfoot's mining heritage. The National Events Deck, located over the old sluice, provides a large decked area for events, the Crabbing Centre, and the Coastal Schooner, a life-size, three-masted schooner. The Coastal Schooner forms the second interpretation centre, focusing on Pembrokeshire and Wales' maritime history, and includes a small cafe, a high-ropes course, and doubles up as an events stage and outdoor cinema screen. The Marine Centre of Excellence includes a Water Sports Centre, Chandlery, Marine Workshop, Cafe, Restaurant, Ocean Cabins (short-stay accommodation), meeting & conference rooms, Harbour Office, and the Storm Centre, the third interpretation centre exploring geology, erosion, weather, climate change, and Saundersfoot's environmental future.
