About SCI | Foundation for Cultural Inventory

SCI | Foundation for Cultural Inventory was founded in 1997 and operates as an independent, non-profit organization. Since September 20th 2007 the Dutch Tax Administration (‘belastingdienst’) designated SCI as a public interest institution (ANBI), as a result all donations are tax deductable. SCI conducts research on lesser-known collections of Dutch and Flemish cultural heritage in foreign countries. At first SCI makes an inventory of the collection, usually the museum concerned has not exactly an eye on what kind of works of art they own. After the inventory is finished, SCI catalogues or helps cataloguing these collections, gives advice on conservation and, if needed, stimulates the restoration of the artefacts. In every way SCI plays the role of a curator of Dutch and Flemish art when a foreign museum doesn’t have the recourses to hire one themselves. Sometimes the above lead to a publication or an exhibition as well as in the country the collection is present as in the Netherlands or other parts of Europe. In this way SCI plays a very important role by making the collection accessible to the public and stimulates scientific research. This last goal is underlined by the digitalization of all the collections in a database on our own website.
