About Scrinium
Since its foundation in 2000, Scrinium has been committed in the creation of projects for the protection and promotion of the cultural and artistic heritage, devoting special attention to primary sources and documentary and artistic findings which, because of the necessary restrictions on their access dictated by the preservative procedures, would otherwise become idle resources, permanently removed from the public view and appreciation and therefore deprived of their “cultural appeal”. After selecting the source material and insuring its protection by restoration works, Scrinium, on behalf of distinguished conservation institutions, organizes and coordinates relevant cultural projects on key historical documents to promote their significance for the modern world as living traces of the past, unique values of the culture they belong to and to facilitate their study, knowledge and dissemination. As a result, documents kept for centuries in the darkness of the archives, such as the ancient parchments of the Trail against the Knights Templar, have been brought back to light, the only two surviving autographs by St. Francis of Assisi have found new life and have received a new, original interpretation, and, more recently, the most precious and fascinating Marco Polo’s will could reveal the intimate thoughts and last wishes of the great Venetian traveler on his deathbed. Scrinium has undertaken the mission of revealing and enhancing such precious masterpieces of writing, retrieving them to readability, interpreting their meaning and purpose, reconstructing their shape and structure with the highest scientific precision so that they can be studied, investigated and admired all over the world and their value is perpetuated in the future.
