For over 45 years the local communities we serve have trusted Seamus Fitzsimons Funeral Directors with helping them plan the service envisaged for their loved one. Started in 1962, Seamus and his sister Helena set out with a view to support families in Downpatrick and all surrounding areas through the difficult time of dealing with the loss of a relative or friend. Offering a dignified service, Seamus Fitzsimons Funeral Directors grew from strength to strength. Prior to Seamus Fitzsimons Funeral Directors being established, Seamus assisted Joe Kelly, a local Spirit Grocer and Publican based in lower Market Street in the town. Seamus went on to serve his time as a carpenter with local building contractor Hugh J O Boyle. At this time there were other local Funeral arrangers in Downpatrick. Florence Bohill, Harry Killen and Vera Smyth were all names associated with the industry in and around the 1950’s, 60’s and 70’s. Seamus also worked closely with other local Funeral Directors, Terry Teague (Killough), Charlie Duddy (Ardglass), Gerry Walsh (Killyleagh) and Jennings (Crossgar). Following the loss of Seamus himself, the established family business will continue to provide the same care and attention to the community under the management of Ciaran Fitzpatrick, of Peter Fitzpatrick & Sons Estate Agents, another long running family business set in the heart of Downpatrick.
