About SEARCH Group, Incorporated
SEARCH, The National Consortium for Justice Information and Statistics, is a nonprofit membership organization with 55 years of experience supporting the information sharing, information technology, cybercrime investigative/digital forensics, and criminal records systems needs of justice and public safety practitioners at the state, local, regional, and tribal levels nationwide. SEARCH’s Purpose is to: 1. Improve the administration of justice through the effective application and responsible deployment of information and identification technologies. 2. Develop and promote constitutionally balanced and effective law and policy governing the use and management of justice information and identification technologies. 3. Enhance the efficiency, effectiveness, and quality of decision-making and information management through policy analysis, training, technical assistance, and systems development. 4. Inform and improve policy and practice in the administration of justice through evidence-based research and data. Since 1969, SEARCH’s support of justice and public safety has been accomplished through our core capabilities in technical assistance; training, educational workshops, and conferences; development of methodologies, tools, and standards; policy assistance and research; participation in national initiatives; and online resources, including nationally published white papers, technical guides, and research reports. SEARCH is governed by its owners, a Membership Group comprised of one gubernatorial appointee from each state, the District of Columbia, and the territories, as well as eight at-large appointees selected by SEARCH’s Chair. Members are primarily senior-level state justice officials responsible for operational decisions and policy concerning the management of criminal justice information, particularly criminal history information.
