About Seed Sessions

Seed Sessions is a Bristol-based charity providing counselling sessions for male identifying musicians alongside studio time and mentoring from inspiring professional musicians. Musicians are three times more likely to experience mental health issues such as anxiety and depression than the general population. Suicide is the biggest killer of men under 50. Therefore, male-identifying musicians are particularly vulnerable. Seed Sessions is named in memory of Toby Seed (11.02.88 – 04.10.18), a wonderfully gifted musician who sadly took his own life. The name has also been chosen to remind us of the potential within each individual and the growth that can be achieved with the appropriate nurture and care. Our counsellors support participants to talk through their mental health issues, building self-awareness and self-compassionate strategies to find wellbeing. Simultaneously, our team of musician mentors help nurture participants’ creative development and confidence, supporting them to find fulfillment and expression through their music making. Through Seed Sessions, participants are brought out of isolation and into a supportive community. This reduces stigma associated with men talking about mental health challenges, and promotes better awareness, support and provision to male musicians.
