At Service Paws in Layton, Utah, we believe that a well-trained dog can do more than change a life—it can help reclaim one. As a nonprofit, our mission is to empower individuals with disabilities, military veterans, and first responders by providing access to professionally trained service dogs. These dogs offer more than just assistance—they bring independence, safety, and renewed confidence. Our unique owner-assisted training model ensures that each service dog candidate is raised and trained alongside their handler from day one. This early bonding builds a foundation of trust, helping dogs naturally learn their handler’s routines, needs, and emotional cues. Many of our service dogs are rescues—given a second chance to change a life for the better. In addition to service dog training, we also offer therapy dog visits to schools, nursing homes, medical facilities, and veteran centers—bringing smiles and comfort wherever they go. We provide basic, affordable one-on-one training sessions for pet owners, with proceeds supporting our larger mission. Our programs serve a wide range of needs, including PTSD, autism, traumatic brain injury, mobility challenges, POTS, and diabetes. Each dog undergoes thorough evaluation and ongoing assessments to ensure they’re the right fit for service work. Guided by our core pillars—education, connection, support, and independence—we’re committed to building stronger communities. We help handlers understand their rights under the ADA, and we work with businesses to foster inclusive environments. Service Paws runs entirely on the support of our volunteers and donors.
