Shades Dancewear is a female-founded, independent, UK based organisation that encourages all dancers to embrace their ethnicity and retain their identity throughout their entire dance and performing arts journey. Our four diverse skin tone shades - Bojangles, Raven, Uday and Pearl - are named in honour of Global Majority pioneers of dance, to educate and celebrate the diverse history of dance. Shades is redefining the narrative of representation in the world of dance. We believe every dancer deserves to feel seen, empowered and valued. We champion the richness of diversity and identity through our inclusive dancewear, and aim to expand our collection as we continue to thrive and grow. Shades exists to encourage dancers of all backgrounds to embrace their ethnicity unapologetically and carry their cultural heritage with pride throughout their dance journey. Representation is not a trend - it's a necessity. And for too long, dancers from the Global Majority have had to compromise on visibility and expression within the dance industry. Shades proudly sponsors our official charity partner, the TIRED Movement: Trying to Improve Racial Equality in Dance. We are committed to driving positive change across the wider dance community and supporting dancers of every background to reach their full potential. 10% of all Shades profit goes directly towards funding the movement to continue to exist and carry out their necessary work with dance schools, vocational colleges, creative organisations and more.
