About ShareUbuntu

Ubuntu is a way of being that comes from the indigenous cultures of Southern Africa and translates to "I am because we are" and "A person is a person through other people." Ubuntu is simply a way of being that reminds us that our lives are a part of a much larger “we.” Currently there is no word that translates "Ubuntu" directly into English. It can be said that if something doesn't have a word to describe it, than it doesn't hold high value in that culture and it can easily be forgotten in the design of systems and networks. We believe turning towards our humanity is of utmost important to move through the challenges that are facing our global village. The shared goals of #ShareUbuntu are to: 1) Create awareness and use of the word "Ubuntu" in language to encourage more discussions of our role and ways of being in supporting humanity 2) Inspire people to #ShareUbuntu by turning towards each other to create simple moments of togetherness through playful acts of kindness and by hosting #ShareUbuntu Circles (see photos of examples below.) The #ShareUbuntu campaign is way to remind people around the globe of how powerful we are when we come together and find common ground in our humanity. We are continuously inspired by the organizations and groups we collaborate with to uplift humanity like "Play for Peace." We are harnessing the power of play to seed relationships for stronger communities and to connect people to an experience of togetherness.
