About SharingStories Foundation

SharingStories Foundation is non-profit organisation led by a passionate majority First Nations board that has worked for 12 years with First Nations communities to protect, maintain and grow language, stories and cultural heritage. Vision: Strong, connected First Nations young people and communities working together with all Australians to care for culture and Country SharingStories facilitates community-driven arts and education initiatives across Australia supporting cultural continuity, building connections between Elder and child, community and educator and First Nations and non-Indigenous peoples. Our Focus • ‘Keeping Programs’ to build capacity in community through the bringing together of all generations for mentoring, exchange and development of artistic and linguistic cultural resources • ‘Sharing Programs’ to enable co-curation of selected outcomes to be shared with the wider community, particularly through Digital Publishing, Exhibitions, Installations and Curriculum Resources • ‘Amplifying Programs’ that utilise strong evidence-based evaluation and communications strategies to advocate for change in education, tourism and community engagement Our Way of Working • Learning both ways – Elder and child, Indigenous and non-Indigenous, speaking and listening, traditional and modern, oral storytelling and digital storytelling – and building spaces where learning both ways is real for Indigenous children, Elders and all Australians • Working over the long term, supporting ongoing cultural maintenance practices • Inventing, adapting, adopting, continuously finding new and exciting ways to interpret cultural stories using a range of dynamic and evolving media art forms • Commitment to Indigenous self-determination in all aspects of program design, implementation and outcomes
