Sheppard, Morgan & Schwaab, Inc. (SMS) is a Civil Engineering and Land Surveying firm based in Alton, Illinois. SMS has provided professional services for 130 years for clients primarily in the Illinois Counties of Calhoun, Jersey, Macoupin, Madison and St. Clair and the Missouri Counties northwest of St. Louis. SMS can trace its history back to 1892 when Mr. C. A. Sheppard began the practice of Land Surveying and Civil Engineering. Over the years SMS has developed an excellent professional reputation and long term client relationships. The personal attention afforded each project by the firm’s key employees helps insure total project coordination and success. This tradition continues under the leadership of Mr. Charles Arthur (CAS) Sheppard, President of the firm and fourth generation in the Sheppard family. SMS was awarded the Southern Illinois University Edwardsville’s School of Business 2001 Mississippi Valley Family Business of the Year Award and again was recognized as the 2001-2002 National MassMutual Family Business of the Year, Small Business Category (under 50 employees). SMS currently employs 27 engineers, surveyors, technicians and administrative personnel. Three full time field parties perform route surveys, lot and acreage surveys and data gathering. Nine registered professionals in engineering and land surveying provide engineering and surveying services to ensure project success and client satisfaction.
