About Shift Consultancy

We are a small team of consumer psychologists who have developed ways of integrating behavioural science with qualitative research to help companies make more informed commercial decisions. Founded by Philip Graves in 2005, Shift Consultancy’s core expertise is in how consumers think. As a result, we work across categories and commercial challenges; everything from changing the behaviour of airport users to speed up security screening, to creating successful new drinks. At the heart of our work is the recognition that there can be a big difference between what people say and what they actually think, feel and do. We understand why this gap exists and how to overcome it. Insight: Exploring the unconscious and contextual drivers that influence consumers, to give our clients the deepest, most accurate insights possible. Behaviour change: Identifying what’s driving existing behaviour and applying proven techniques from behavioural science and psychology to drive the desired change. Consumer psychology consultancy: Understanding how consumers think to support commercial projects, delivering in-house training or providing media commentary.
