About Shikha Memorial Foundation
Shikha Memorial Foundation was established to provide growth opportunities to under-privileged children through the sport of swimming. CORE VALUES & BELIEFS: 1. It is the belief of this foundation that competitive sports can be a great social equalizer by providing opportunities. 2. In the near term, the foundation will execute its goal of supporting the community through free swim lessons to children from under-privileged socio-economic backgrounds. All inequity has a strong root in history. Lack of swimming ability in the African American community is a great example. 3. In order for a society to thrive and for a civilization to live long, economic inequality must be constantly tackled. All spectrums of the society must interact meaningfully, thereby developing mutual care and respect. The demise of great Roman Empire is an example. EXECUTION STRATEGY - PHASE I 1. Partner with Boys and Girls Club of Kansas City that already serves such youth and has a pool at their Independence location. Empire Swim Club of Kansas City (EKC) will provide swim instruction. 2. To promote social integration starting at a young age, high school level swimmers at EKC with certification shall volunteer and teach children swimming. 3. In partnership with Michael Phelps Foundation, establish a system of reward to encourage volunteering for the dedicated EKC swimmers. The foundation’s first goal is to run a five week program from June 28th to July 29th, 2021. The program will be offered at the Thornberry Club location and will serve approximately 80 children. Program details can be found at (link to be sent) EXECUTION STRATEGY - PHASE II 1. Offer a similar program at the club in Fall 2021 and Spring 2022. 2. Support club expenses for children who want to pursue competitive swimming at EKC.
