Shining Down, Inc. – The Jim Lafferty Memorial Foundation has announced their official launch! The foundation, which will raise funds to promote prostate cancer awareness, education, and research for improved treatment options was founded by Jennifer Lafferty and Tamara Wyman in memory and honor of their husband and dear friend Jim Lafferty. Passionate about helping others in his position, Jim lost his battle with prostate cancer in December 2010 at the young age of 40. The genesis of the foundation was a promise made to Jim in his final days that they would “continue the fight”. Tamara and Jen work closely together, with Tamara focusing on the core development of the foundation from MA, and Jen heading local development and PR in PA. They are joined by Joseph Pro, Kathleen Rode, Dr. Christopher Davis, D.O.and Joseph Woolley on an esteemed Board of Directors. Jim was diagnosed with stage four prostate cancer in late May 2006 at the young age of 35. Almost immediately following, he began his passionate endeavor to educate men of all ages and their families about prostate cancer, treatment options, & sharing his story in every forum he could. Among the nearly 2K people who came to pay their last respects to Jim and his family were many that had never met him, but had either heard him speak on the topic and/or spent hours communicating with him. His life changing impact on others was immeasurable, and Shining Down, Inc. will continue to perpetuate that.
