About Shire Oak Academy

Shire Oak is an 11 to 18 comprehensive academy. In September 2003 we received designation as a specialist science college. In April 2011, our school became a converter academy. We have over 1,400 students on roll. The academy enjoys an enviable reputation in the local area and has been oversubscribed for many years. We pride ourselves on the ‘feel’ of our academy, something on which our visitors quickly remark. Ofsted’s inspectors (our most recent inspection was in November 2014) described our academy’s atmosphere and environment as purposeful, stimulating and harmonious. We believe that our focus on learning and personal success can only be effective in an environment which is ordered, caring, supportive and disciplined. Staff and students work hard together to create such an environment. As a specialist science college, we have set particularly challenging academic targets for our students in the sciences and mathematics, as well as working to support the teaching of science and mathematics in the local community. We are working in partnership with 10 primary schools to develop maths and science teaching projects. Examination results in our academy have continued to be impressive. In our last and aforementioned OFSTED inspection, we were once again judged to be a good school with many outstanding features. We believe that our offer to students and parents is of the highest quality. The inspectors also noted that we care about our students outstandingly well in a safe and secure working environment; we have developed excellent, well-established systems to provide support to our students. We place great emphasis on the highest standards in terms of commitment to studies, good manners and courtesy, attendance, appearance and behaviour. We embrace the values of being a learning community, one that promotes lifelong learning and places emphasis on respect, fairness, honesty and responsibility.
