About Shirley®

Shirley® tests, audits and certifies textiles and other flexible materials. It can trace its history back nearly 100 years through the Shirley Institute and Wool Industry Research Institute (WIRA). Over that time, it has been instrumental in many of the major development in textiles, including a Nobel prize for staff working at WIRA in 1952 for the invention of separation chromatography; the creation of the first breathable fabrics; and development of standard tests such as the Martindale Abrasion Test, and the Tog test. We offer services all throughout the world. Our offices are located in UK Bangladesh, China, India, Ireland, Kenya, Pakistan, Singapore and Vietnam. The staff in these offices provide advice and assistance to customers, and provide a local auditing service. All overseas staff are textile specialists with appropriate qualifications, they receive additional training in the UK. The experts at Shirley® are able to offer a service that is independent, and of the highest integrity. Shirley® staff are always prepared to work in partnership with customers to offer an explanation of results, and appropriate help and advice.
